The article explains it much better than I can.

The key to their success was their architecture.

Perl was just part of the architecture.

My point was and is that it is very capable, and much faster then most people realize.

As for not scaling as well as EJB and COM, well I dunno.

I think most people that call themselves Java programmers would be hard pressed to create a system as fast and robust as the one that was etoys.com.

I say 'java programmers' in the same sense that recent non-experienced MCSE's call themselves system admins.

I've taken a java class. Pretty easy to use but much too wordy. :)
