Marin,

Not sure I understand the question. Each database needs a unique sid on that machine. You can use the same sid on different computers, but not on the same one. According to MetaLink DBID is not a unique indicator.

Hi,

what is the best way to uniquely identify a database?

  1. grant access to the user to v$database and use DBID?
    (how unique is the DBID?)

B.generate a unique ID somehow
(some PL/SQL package to use?)

thanx,

    Marin
