Hi,

did you mount the cdrom as read only ?
If you have it in your fstab, check for an ro entry in the cdrom line. I personally prefer to build a stage on a disk to install oracle from. In case of patches being published, you can go ahead and apply the patches to the stage (if they are of the kind that can be applied to the stage as in 8.0.5 on SuSE 6.2 i.e.).
