Hmmmm...I don't know how pounding a single drive with two threads instead of one would help, but it could be tried. I would think that the LGWR would be the big complainer in a 1-disk config, instead of the DBWR. Or at least I think LGWR would complain more often...

My post was simply to point out that the error message in TOAD about "Number of DB_FILES set too high" was inaccurate. And as the "Tuning" stuff in TOAD has been redone, at least in the latest TOAD v7 Beta, this error message won't be a hassle too much longer.
