Also, if you want to use OEM, and set this up to monitor for events in background, you should set the intelligent agent - <OracleOraHome81Agent> - and the management server - <OracleOraHome81ManagementServer> to set automatically on start up.

Services are pretty much processes that run in background on NT (without seeing them on your main windows bar at the bottom). They can sometimes been seen running in the bottom right hand side of the bar though(task bar?). SQL Server for instance shows with a nice little green arrow showing it's started:)

To determine what is started/stopped, and their start up options, go to Start/Control Panel/Services and it's pretty simple from there...

You need also the oracle listener service. This should also set to automatic start.

Hi Ura,

There are two NT services associated with a database: OracleService<SID> and OracleStart<SID>
These two should be iin automatic start mode if you wnat your DB to come up when you reboot. Service are similar to processes on Unix.
