Partition Tables and dropping/recreating indexes

All,

I have a partition of a table which has become fragmented. The plan is to extract the data, drop the index and reload the data then close it off. This will free up a bit of disk for us.

My question is how feasible is this. Can the index partition be rebuilt purely for the partition we are unloading/reloading. I did an exp then an imp with indexfile to get out the sql and it says the index is LOCAL. From what I glean from the documentation, this means that it is possible to do what we originally planned.

I would appreciate any hints or gotchas from anyone who has experience of this type of situation or indeed from anyone who has a good background in Oracle 8 (which I don't - YET !!).

Regards

Lee Robertson
