I have looked into the ST.Bernard Open File Manager as a backup solution =

to a "hot" backup. They swear that you can backup "hot" datafiles and not =
have to do anything internal to Oracle. Their method of backup is to take =
a snapshot of the database right before backup starts and then keep track =
of eack data block that gets changed during the backup process and tag the = changed blocks at the end of the tape. Sounds real simple and logical. I = still question the process using the old suspiscions "that is it was that = good why didn't Oracle buy it and supply it as part of their database = package?"
They could have become the "Micro$oft" of the database world and given the = government something else to bust up. There's a thought, maybe M$$$ will = convince Oracle to become larger so the governmental pressure will be = lifted while the government focuses on Oracle. ROR m=AA=BF=AAm

Hello everyone,

Sorry, yahoo is playing up on me... I don't know if this message very got thru so here it is again.

Env: 8.1.7 with OPS and Compaq Tru64 Unix with clustering

I'd like to hear from anyone who has done some investigations on backup solutions, and the solution you took. The 2 products we're looking at right now are Veritas and Legato. We've got about 5 clusters (2 nodes per cluster) with large amounts of data and transactions. We need to do hot backups with as much speed as possible.

So, any helpful reasoning behind your
choices/experiences would be appreciated.

TIA, Leng.
