I'm not a big fan of Java for web development efforts because development is somewhat slow, and performance can be disappointing.

In my opinion, Apache/mod_php/php is a *VERY* powerful combination which works very well with Oracle. There are many production internet sites fed off of this combination. Also, Apache/mod_perl/DBI is very powerful.
