Do they care about recovery? I assume the redo log groups are on the same disk with everything else. If they lose that disk and have to go from tape, they are good to the last archived redo log and may lose information. If the archived redo logs are on the disk as well and it is lost, then they are only good to the last backup tape. Of course, I wonder if they even know what online backups are...

I am interviewing with a company now that has an Oracle based statistical process control application running on one spindle (HP-UX). They want to add another application for WIP tracking. They do not see any reason why they shouldn't keep everything on one spindle. I can think of a few reasons NOT to do this, but I would like more ammunition.

TIA, Ken
