REPLY -- The problem that you are experiencing is a hardware failure. Have your systems folks look at the exception error 11. Also, ask them to look at their error  logs to see if
a drive is putting out warning messages. Even though the error is resolved at  the operating
system level it is still enough to cause Oracle to crash. Like a burp.

We are running on a Sun Solaris, Oracle 7.1.4. An 11 for us is a write failure  on the
device. We had to have the systems people replace the file system. This has  also happened
to us when a unix adapter board was installed. We had to have the adapter  turned off.
