A company wants you to create a small application to help them track
sales orders. The orders will
arrive by phone or e-mail from a website, and a clerk will enter the
data into your application.
Currently, the company receives many orders by phone, and it requires
two clerks on duty much of the
time to prevent busy signals. If 50 percent of the orders shift to the
online system (which is already
developed), the company can eliminate one of the phone clerks (at
minimum wage) [Assume that the
minimum wage is 5.15 USD per hour]. The company already has a computer,
but would need to buy
the DBMS.
You are required to develop a spreadsheet to assess the feasibility of
the project and estimate how
much would the company be willing to pay for the application? Assuming
the products are
straightforward and the data transfer is easy, how long should it take
you to develop the system?
[Also assume that the project life will be about three years, that the
discount rate (Interest rate) is
currently at 3% and that the company will be using MS Access =AE DBMS,
which costs about 200 US
dollars]
