You will likely be okay as long as you don't use any Oracle 9 new
features.

For example, OCI for V6 works fine with V7, and V5 works with V6, but
it won't if you create V6 datatypes that didn't exist with V5.

I haven't specifically tried V9, though, so don't take my word on it. 
(not that you really would anyway, right?)
