Oracle-VeriFone Announcement Details
On February 21, Oracle and VeriFone announced a strategic alliance to create
an end-to-end payment system which lets consumers buy goods and services
quickly and securely over the Internet. The alliance focuses on combining
Oracle's powerful WebServer software with VeriFone's highly regarded and
secure payment software, to produce the first payment-enabled WebServer on the
market. Please read below for details on the announcement and how you can

Who is VeriFone?
With a 60% market share, VeriFone is the market leader in transaction
automation for point-of-sale systems. Their main customers include
restaurants, lodgings, specialty stores, and petroleum retail outlets.

Key Components of Oracle-VeriFone Payment System:
1) Merchants - Oracle WebServer will integrate VeriFone Virtual Point-of-Sale
terminal software
2) Consumers - VeriFone's payment window (electronic wallet) will be built
into Oracle PowerBrowser, and will include multiple payment options and an
easy-to-use GUI
3) Financial Institutions - the payment system will provide an internet
gateway for accepting payment transactions and performing real-time payment
authorization, and will provide seamless integration with an institution's
existing payment authorization infrastructure.

using their existing payment instruments
   - PowerBrowser users will be able to pay for goods and services with
"e-cash" using VeriFone's PayWindow

Key Competitive Differentiators vs. Netscape:

o Oracle's solution is open, as third-party developers can take advantage of
WebServer's WebRequest Broker API. Netscape does not have an API for their
payment system.

o Oracle's solution is flexible, since any payment processor supported by
V-POS can be used. Netscape's Merchant Server must use First Data as the
payment processor.

Availability:
The Oracle-VeriFone Internet Payment System will be available in Q3, 1996.
