password on internal?

Greetings from a new Oracle DBA...

We (another newbie Oracle DBA and I) would like to change (or establish) a password on the 'internal' user. Is this possible? ALTER USER doesn't do it (user does not exist). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
