We currently have raid5 and Oracle 7.1.4.3.2.  About 2 months ago one 
of our drives went.  We just hot swapped it and away we went. No down 
time what so ever.  While the drive was out, the server did run a wee
bit slower, but it is better to have it run slower than not at all.

Just my (very much in favor of!) 2cents worth.
