Straying off the point a little, the question of line numbers not being 
the same as in the original source, firstly, if they were, the Compiler 
Writers' Guild would be down on you like a ton of bricks, and secondly,
isn't the line number reported the same as in USER_SOURCE, ie

 select text from user_source
    where name = 'my_name' and line = nnnn;

Remember, user-friendliness is for users, not for the likes of us.
