Using what platform?  I have just installed 7.1.4 on an RS-6000
and had no problems except a couple. 

#1) Oracle switched the background processes from daemons to run 
    under the Oracle ID.  This means that we had to increase the
    number of processes per user up to 500. (Good thing that this
    client is pure client/server!)

#2) I could never get MTS working or even a loopback of SQL*Net 2.1.
    We tried to connect from a client using dedicated servers and it
    worked fine.
