I seriously doubt that the fact that two products aren't certified
against each other causes them to fail.

No, it's a bug in Oracle 8.1.7, as I know now. "Combatibility issue" is
a euphemism for "bug", but it's still a bug.

I'd be happier with a bug fix in the database than a workaround in
Designer, since other applications will still fail because of this bug.
