What makes you think the reasons are based on the mainframe?
Especially when you say you're on XP?  System 360/370/390, etc.  was
*not* the first platform Oracle was developed on.  Any perceived
problems with Oracle certainly do *not* come from its having roots in
the mainframe.

And what makes you think the "mainframe" is "antiquated"?  Do you think
they've been sitting around doing nothing for the last 20 years?
