We are going to be upgrading to 10g Release 2, but it's not currently a priority. Performance tuning the reporting side of the system is, and that's where I'm most widely involved. This new table is related to the reporting aspect of the system.

Creating locally managed tablespaces is not currently an option we wish to investigate, as we just don't trust them in 8i. New Oracle features are notorious for being a tad, how can I put this, buggy. It's hard to be sure with my lack of knowledge being as it is, but I seem to remember LMT's being a new feature in 8i.......

After upgrading to 10g R2, LMT's will be looked at more seriously as an option.

For someone who's never even seen the app I'm working on, you seem to presume an awful lot about it, but maybe that's just my perception of things.
