Cool to hear that :)
This situation is far more common as one expects it to be. Among the companies I work for , some of the biggest still have systems operating 8i. I think the biggest they are, the most reluctant to change they are too.
The company I'm currently working for is the biggest telephony operator in France and still sticks with 8i for some systems. On the opposite, I've been working for small businesses which decided to purchase 10g licences.

BTW, I'm not sure moving to 9i will solve my problems with those freaking LOB inserts...but it could help. Unfortunately, this isn't an option for the moment.
