YLS177, Sybrand has provided the correct relationship information for
databases to instances.  What might be of interest to you based on your
post is that yes you can install one copy of Oracle, that is, one set
of Oracle binaries, and run several database instances on one server
using the same set of binaries.  But each instance would access its own
database.

See the DBA Administration manual chapter on creating an Oracle
database.
