These unhelpful responses have almost always been justified and they keep
the group readable. Problem that you are avoiding is the attitude that one
doesn't need to make intellectual effort to learn things, but just ask any
question here and it will be politely and expediently answered. I find it 
desirable to suppress such an attitude by sometimes reminding people of
the skill called "reading".
