You can create an account in Oracle that lets the OS control access to it, so you don't have to embed the password in anything. You'd only want to do this if you have a fairly secure OS. http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/A87860_01/doc/server.817/a76956/users.htm#716

Remedy is fairly idiosyncratic, you probably do want to understand the environment it runs on before you shoot off your privates.
