Goldengate VS. Oracle replication

Does anyone have any info on the benefits or drawbacks of using Oracle replication vs. the TDM tool from Goldengate software? I'm familiar with Oracle replication, but not Goldengate. I know Goldengate will replicate between different platforms and database vendors, but how does it extract transactional data (log mining, triggers)? And how does Goldengate compare in terms of ease of administration?

Thanks,
