Thanks. To add to that - the link is for Oracle Database 10g Release 1 - for more generic access, start at http://docs.oracle.com (or http://tahiti.oracle.com) and drill into the version of choice.

To OP - the reason it takes years, is because no one can plow through the 55,000 pages of documentation (per version, per product set) in less time. And the reason DBAs are paid 'well' is to provide compensation for the required optometrist/opthomologist visits.
