I didn't read that but I don't doubt you. If that is the case then SAME is the solution assuming that the OP is somehow going to be able to run on the exact same hardware with a lot less usable disk space which in most production systems in a non-starter.
Had I noticed Oracle 8 I would have suggested improving performance by upgrading to 9i or 10g which likely would do as much as getting off RAID5.
