Great Britain and the American Colonies did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until September, 1752. At the time of the adoption 11 days were removed from the month to put it into synchronisation with the rest of the known world already using the Gregorian algorithm. Thus the calendar for September, 1752 appears:

   September 1752

17 18 19 20 21 22 23
24 25 26 27 28 29 30

Different locations, different times of eventual adoption of the now-universal Gregorian calendar.
