Being that Oracle has more than 30 manuals it might help if you specified which manual, chapter, and section topic the quote came from as well as which Oracle version you are dealing with.

The ordered_predicates hint has been depreciated in version 10g and should not be used per the OracleŽ Database Performance Tuning Guide, Chapter titled What's New in Oracle Performance? under the heading "Additional Deprecated Optimizer Hints"
