64 Bit Windows Server is $1200 list price, RHAS support is $1500. You can probably get both cheaper if you negotiate. Where is the huge premium? Especially if you factor in the cost of the app and the db software. Operating systems - even those from MS are commodity products now.

There are a number of reasons to criticise MS, but the 'huge premium' isn't one of them.
