No, until 10g and rman's new ability to convert between big and little indian machines the only approved method for moving Oracle databases from non-compatiable hardware platforms was to use export/import.

Note that the Oracle binary itself is platform dependent as Oracle has a platform specific port team made up of Oracle and vendor people who tweak Oracle for each platform. You would have to install Oracle even if the database datafiles could be copied.
