If by DBA you mean install, configure, backup, and recover I'd say the profession is dying. If by DBA you mean tuninng, working with the App Server, building RAC clusters, and acting as a mentor to the developers the job will be here for the forseeable future.
The DBA job will survive. The DBAs that still can't find their way to using RMAN will not.
