this is a problem that you should not be attempting to solve.

as you likely know, no fixes were provided for Security Alert #68 for 8.1.5, 8.1.6. 8.1.7 is off of error correction support as of 31-DEC.

Why not just upgrade to 9.2, apply the 9.2.0.6 patchset, gather stats, set optimizer_dynamic_sampling=2 and see what happens.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could even upgrade to 10.1.
