While I agree with you, in this specific case it could be taken as a reference to the DB Consulting logo. In which case, it could be considered "funny" despite not having a smiley, and not unnecessary, as having such a logo invites commentary.

One more thing bothers me, and that is, there is no byline on the "November 18" post. Who wrote it? The lady in the picture?
