I have a 1.3TB database at home. It's what happens when you, er, backup your DVD and CD collections to disk.

I just get a bit sad thinking of the need for that, or -worse- Petabytes of storage when the Romans managed to run the world's largest Empire (before the Brits, of course!) with just a carved impediment or two on the local temple and some WXT-RWs (Wax Tablets, re-writable).

I bet most of the Petabytes are just crap that someone can't be bothered to sort out and dispose of properly. I know most of my DVD collection is (anyone for The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes?)!!

Regards
