Have you tried it with an 802.11g wireless card before the 2.6 kernel decided to include 802.11g as standard?! Then try it with a blue box that pipes IP packets through the house's electrical wiring... a nice idea that doesn't even work properly in Windows!!
Sheesh... I mean, we're not talking Cat5 Ethernet here, 'cos that (I agree) was a (relative) walk in the park.
Anyway, don't talk to me about RHAS3, because my Dell won't even boot with it. I wanted it badly, because I like it very much. But even a text mode install was a no-no.
Same for Mandrake, actually.
When it comes time for me to replace this notebook, I shall do so with great pleasure. It has been nothing but a lot of incompatible awkwardnesses.
