thx mark - think of it this way there are companies that make jdbc stacks, oci drivers, sniffers, application monitoring sw, firewalls, etc. they are 3rd party not oracle. they don't work for oracle. they do it without oracle (oracle has no specs to give). it isn't obvious to me how they have figured it out. I asked the question because I thought someone might have advice how +they+ did it or how it could be done. there are companies are doing it now. I'm trying to do the same.
