Scenarios:

DBA multiplexes control files based on directory path. SA reorganizes (optimizes disk usage) and ends up putting directories on different partitions on same hard drive. Hard drive crashes ...
DBA multiplexes based on common root drectory /opt, under which the different partitions are mounted. Innocent? "rm -rf /opt/oracle/database/* .ctrl" is issued ...
Server memory corruption causes server outage. Replacement parts will take 3 days so management says move the system to the admin server ...
