"Reverse" East Asian naming conventions, as explained to me by co-worker (name changed to protect the innocent) Johnny Teo Chee Keng:

Johnny - "adopted" common Anglicised name - usually listed first if one exists, not everyone takes one

Teo - "family" name - listed first unless preceded by adopted Anglicised name

Chee Keng - "given" name - normally treated as ONE name, not first/second, follows family name

The real trap is that not all East Asians use this convention, for a few it's still done the Anglo/Euro way. I always ask.

Me: What is your name?
Him: Teo Chee Keng.
Me: So, that's Mr Teo, right?
Him: Yes, but please just call me Chee Keng, or Johnny.
