I would recommend SF15k, but that's probably not an option. :-) For me high performance and low cost are quite opposite requirements. Also you have mentioned 10-14 disks. That could be a quite big problem, because usually low-cost boxes does not support so many disks and also internal disks never can achieve performance metrics of an external disk array.
Oracle 8.0.5 is a quite old beast, unsupported for years, so not very good for implementation on a brand new system.
