And also, it can be handy to have redundancy with exports (or even flat files), for those times you need to grab just a few rows that were mistakenly changed.

I'm looking for advice on when to delete prior archives, having been bitten by RMAN bugs where it can't figure out it where some logs are when restoring to create a standby. Standby restore/resynchronize can take two days [8i hp-ux nocatalog].
