Multiple databases

I currently have a Oracle 8.0.5 database. I need to create another database for temporary testing purpose. I don't know how to set up which database is default log in when I use svrmgr30 or EM to access the databases and how do I switch.

I can start a database with a pfile, What I'm wondering is if more than one database is started with svrmgr30, how do I connect to each database? When I send a shutdown command, which one is shutdown?

Please give me some advise.
