DRIVING_SITE

I thought I'd already posted this, so apologies if it's ended up on a similar group.

Has anyone come across a case where Oracle decides to send data to join to a table on a remote site rather than bringing data back to join locally? I can force this behaviour with a DRIVING_SITE hint but I can't contrive an example that the optimizer chooses to do this way itself. The
documentation suggests that the optimizer has the intelligence to do it.

This is on 8.1.7 and 9.2.0, statistics gathered for all tables. Looking at a 10053 trace the optimizer isn't even considering this without a hint. Received on Tue Dec 02 2003 - 02:56:22 CST
