Hi,

Environment: Solaris 8, Oracle DB 9.2.0.4

I have hunted high and low for an answer to this question (Metalink, newsgroups, etc), but alas, I have found no definitive answer. I'm hoping that this thread may provide one, and be a useful reference for the future.

My question is, is it a straightforward task to change the hostname of an Oracle database server without having to reinstall the Oracle software?

The powers that be have decided they do not *like* the current name of our server, and wish to implement a standard naming scheme for this and any future servers we install. Will we be able to simply change the name in the various Solaris config files, DNS entry, and a small number of Oracle config files, or is it likely to cause so much hassle, that a fresh install would be the better option?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Regards,

Mike. Received on Thu Nov 27 2003 - 03:56:22 CST
