Impossible to say what you are doing wrong. Your O/S is right. Your RAM is fine. I have issues with the Athlon, but that's just me.

The problem could be anything. You're presumably not installing on a clean Windows machine, so who knows what Java stuff you've got lurking in the undergrowth?? Perhaps the downloads were corrupted, and that's the problem? Is re-downloading a possibility? (Failing that, shell out about $80 and get the full CD install kit).

On every Windows installation I've ever done, I click setup.exe and the job then runs through to completion without effort. So I've never been very good at working out why others' Oracle installations on Windows run into such problems.

Usually it's Java stuff. And usually, the problems go away when you install onto a totally clean machine, freshly installed and freshly patched.

More than that I can't say. Sorry.
