If the machine name and the host name for TCP/IP and DNS do not match:

  1. Open a DOS window and type "hostname" at the command prompt. Make note of the hostname which is returned.
  2. Verify that the Computer Name listed is the same as that returned from the "hostname" command. If it is not, click Change, enter the correct name, and then click OK.
  3. Right click on "My network Places" choose properties, Right click on "Local Area Connections" choose properties, in the list choose Internet Protocol TCP/IP and verify or change needed.
  4. Ensure that all "Host=" entries in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora contain the correct name. If not, change them to match the correct name and that SQLNET.ORA file has the right domain, if any
  5. Stop the agent. If you have made changes to the LISTENER.ORA or TNSNAMES.ORA files, stop the listener. Delete the SNMP_RO.ORA, SNMP-RW.ORA, SERVICES.ORA, and all .Q files. Restart the listener if you've stopped it. Restart the agent.

The machine name and the host name must match. If the name of the machine, or the IP address has changed after the agent has been started, the Intelligent Agent will need to be reinitialized again. The name of the machine is used in the 'Q' file encryption, and will lead to errors if any of that information changes. See note 71911.1 for more information.

Also ensure the HOSTS file has the node name and IP indicated correctly. If you need further assistance with this issue, please post to Oracle Enterprise Manager and Management Packs Technical Forum
