No, actually I said 8 +1 +1 = 10 disks. This device (EMC CX-400) is supposedly to be optimized for Raid 5 internally. I was discouraged by technicians to setup the Raid in a Raid 10 configuration (I did setup a Raid 10 at the beginning but changed it back to Raid 5 later, as long as I had the chance to do it).

I have been told by many specialists that the assumption, that Raid 5 is bad for writing, belongs to the past. Parity calculation and write buffering capabilites are much faster/better than several years ago.
