likely the extent error is because the optimizer has decided to use a sort/merge join or some other operation that requires temporary space

the problem may be in the optimizer's chosen execution plan, but an immediate problem is that your temp tablespace is too small for the sort, or your SORT_AREA_SIZE is set too small for in-memory sorts

check into increasing the disk space allocated to your temp tablespaces

also use the SET AUTOTRACE ON feature of SQL*Plus to determine what execution plan is being selected by the optimizer
