I followed the instructions in your paper, which is very comprehensively written. And I found out that there were a few mistakes I was doing earlier which I corrected while running the dbca wizard, and voila it is working now! It successfully mounted the database:

SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.

Total System Global Area 235999352 bytes

Fixed Size                   450680 bytes
Variable Size             201326592 bytes
Database Buffers           33554432 bytes
Redo Buffers                 667648 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SQL> Thank you for writing that paper, I will forward it to my friends as well.
