Hi, Everyone,

I intend to side with Volker against Rman Catalog DB, which I believe is a stupid idea from Oracle. How can you explain to a small company you will need another catalog Database to just backup this database, preferably
the catalog database is located on another machine? I think a formated text file
will better serve this purpose.

Regarding control file size: I have a DB generating 700 + logs a day with keep_time=15
has control file size around 40M, so if you have 2000 archive logs a day with keep_time=30
the control file size should be around 200M, I think it's managable. Actually control file
size or recovery window is NOT a concern if you also backup control file in Rman like me:
" Backup current controlfile channel disk4 tag='rman_control_file' " for each backup(
they are tiny compared to datafile).
